If you or a loved one are seeking hair transplantation, you’ve come to the right place! In order to determine if you are in fact a candidate, it’s important to first understand how a hair transplant works.
How Does a Hair Transplant Work?
During a hair transplant, hair is harvested from the donor area and transplanted in individual follicular units, into the recipient area of the scalp. The hair transplant surgeon harvests hair from areas of the scalp where the patient is least likely to experience hair loss; typically, the back and sides of the head. The harvesting method used during a hair transplant depends on the type of hair transplant being performed.
FUT vs. FUE
There are two types of hair transplants practiced today: Follicular Unit Transplants (FUT) and Follicular Unit Extractions (FUE). FUT and FUE procedures are very similar techniques, the only difference being the method used to extract the hair follicles from the scalp.
Follicular Unit Transplant (FUT)
During a follicular unit transplant, one or more large section of tissue is extracted from the donor area, at the back and/or sides of the scalp. The tissue is then dissected into singular follicular units, typically containing 1-4 hairs. Once all implants have been prepared they are implanted into the recipient area through microscopic incisions in the scalp.
Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE)
During a follicular unit extraction, individual hair follicles are extracted directly from the donor area, at the back and/or sides of the scalp. The follicles are then prepped and implanted into the recipient area through microscopic incisions in the scalp. Only an experienced hair restoration specialist can determine if an FUT or an FUE procedure is the right solution for you. At Shear Pointe Medical, our team of highly specialized hair transplant surgeons and technicians is on hand to help you understand your options and outline an optimal treatment plan. Because hair restoration is most effective when treatment is started early, we encourage you to take action as soon as possible.
As your hair loss continues to advance, your window of opportunity for hair transplantation will begin to close. The fewer healthy hair follicles with which your surgeon has to work, the more difficult it will be to deliver optimal results. Do not allow your hair loss to continue untreated any longer!
